In an isolated civilization whose inhabitants would all be struck by blindness, what forms of expression would they use? Language, movement, and relationship to space?

Texture is a performance art piece created by the students of the Institut National des Jeunes Aveugles (INJA) and the trio of artists composed of Nicolas Faubert, Gabriel Moraes Aquino, and Richard Sears. This piece is the outcome of a cycle of workshops set up by the INJA and the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection, and the culmination of a fruitful year of partnership.   The students took part in several meetings and collective workshops combining experimentation with dance, form, and acoustics in order to develop autonomy, emancipation, and self-assertion through artistic creation, taking into account the specific circumstances of each young person.

This sensory experience combining physical and digital installation is performed by eight young teenagers with different degrees of blindness: Gilbert Anatolie, Deniz Atac, Wassim el Fellaoui, Chams J’amadouai, Mila Noël, Alexia Papin, Cassandre Saint Sauveur, and Ghiles Tamzait. The play of movement and the stimulation of the senses guide them towards a reappropriation of their bodies and an experimentation with the very idea of freedom.

Texture also invites spectators to immerse themselves in a world where blindness is the norm, to question our own perception of vision, inclusiveness, and our relationship to the world through the five senses.

Guided tours will also be offered at the end of the performance for those who are interested. The evening will continue with a gathering in the Grand Atelier until 8.30 pm.

The artists would like to thank Farid Kati for the building of the steel structure.
