The Bourse de Commerce presents for the first time in France MIKE: Band of the Century, an immersion into the musical universe of New York rapper MIKE. Accompanied by close collaborators, he draws from his repertoire - ranging from emblematic tracks to more confidential pieces - spanning nearly eight years of recorded work in which hip-hop, neo-jazz, and funk flow seamlessly into one another.
A key figure of the new generation of New York rap, MIKE stands out as a singular voice of the underground. His work is marked by introspective and subtle writing, exploring themes of grief, family, and identity, set over muted, soul-inflected production. Founder in 2015 of the underground hip-hop collective sLUms, he gained recognition in 2017 with his mixtape May God Bless Your Hustle. Since then, he has released a series of critically acclaimed projects, including Disco! (2021) and Burning Desire (2023), and has regularly collaborated with Blood Orange, Earl Sweatshirt, The Alchemist, and Freddie Gibbs. Showbiz!, his tenth solo album released on his own label 10k, unfolds an introspective lo-fi hip-hop sound, built from sung fragments and muted textures, evoking a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
In August 2025, with long-time collaborators and close musicians, he made his debut on the iconic online music platform Tiny Desk Concert on American public radio NPR, performing a twenty-minute set recorded behind a desk turned into a studio, opening each piece with the words: “we are the band of the century.” The project was later presented live in New York at the Cherry Lane Theatre, before being reworked into a new version at the Bourse de Commerce.
