In September 2024, Nídia & Valentina will release the dance album Estradas on the Latency label, crafting a shared rhythmic language through syncopated patterns, vibrant marimbas, and melodic interludes.
A producer and DJ of Cape Verdean and Bissau-Guinean descent, Nídia is a key figure of the Afro-Portuguese scene. Backed by the Príncipe label, she released her debut EP Danger in 2015 and has since developed a singular body of work at the crossroads of kuduro, R&B, and house. Her recent album 95 Mindjeres (2023) demonstrates an increasingly refined mastery, blending kizomba, R&B, and club-driven rhythms.
Valentina Magaletti, an Italian percussionist and multi-instrumentalist based in London, stands out for her distinctive approach combining drums, found objects, and electroacoustic setups, constantly exploring new materials and soundscapes. Acclaimed for her work with Vanishing Twin, Moin, and Tomaga, she frequently collaborates with artists such as Floating Points, Mica Levi, and Nicolas Jaar.
With Estradas, Nídia & Valentina draw on kuduro—a genre of Angolan music and dance that pulses between 130 and 135 BPM—to fuel their sonic experimentation, offering a whirlwind of rhythms and melodies: Valentina layers percussive textures and patterns, while Nídia injects sharp, programmed loops.
Based in Mexico City for over fifteen years, Colombian DJ Rosa Pistola is a key figure in the local reggaeton scene. She crafts a raw sound that blends cumbiatón, Latin punk, and merengue with reggaeton, delivering sets that weave together popular tracks and underground cuts, sensual ballads and experimental sounds—a reflection of the energy of her adopted city. She is also the founder of La Chekera Rec, a label that spotlights Mexico’s emerging underground reggaeton scene.

DJ Anderson do Paraíso crafts a dark, slowed-down funk rooted in the atmosphere of the Baile da Serra parties in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Since the 2010s, these events have seen rap rhythms give way to minimalist, ambient arrangements with a slow tempo. His album Queridão (Nyege Nyege Tapes, 2024) unveils a stripped-back funk, pierced by metallic clicks and murky whispers, soprano choirs, and drowsy flutes.
Rosa Pistola and DJ Anderson do Paraíso are among the artists invited to reinterpret the raw percussive material from Nídia & Valentina’s original album on Estradas (Versions), a new Latency release celebrated by this evening’s event.
