Bruce Nauman À Tai Kwun, Hong Kong

until August 18, 2024
Bruce Nauman, Walks In Walks Out

Pinault Collection and Tai Kwun propose an exhibition by Bruce Nauman in continuity to the one titled Contrapposto Studies, which was conceived for the Punta della Dogana in Venice in 2021-2022. Consisting of works from the Pinault Collection – with the collaboration of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Bruce Nauman’s studio – the exhibition at Tai Kwun takes the form of a retrospective devoted to this American artist, the first ever in Asia.

Bruce Nauman (b. 1941, Fort Wayne, Indiana) is considered one of the most influential artists of our time. Since the 1960s, Nauman has continued to inspire new generations of artists, dancers, musicians, and writers the world over. He has experimented relentlessly in various artistic languages, from photography to performance, and from sculpture to video, exploring all their potentials to produce a body of work that questions the very definition of artistic practice. The exhibition foregrounds this diversity of media across more than five decades of the artist’s work.

Through the constant, rigorous use of his work materials, and of the very notion of what makes art, Bruce Nauman explores languages and the human condition in a way that echoes the writings of Samuel Beckett and the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein.
