"Abracadabra!"

Artists feature in the exhibition Clair-obscur play at being alchemists: they explore the four elements – fire, water, air and earth – and use surprising materials (coal, precious stones, objects, microbes) to create works that play on metamorphosis to challenge our perceptions.

Accompanied by a museum guide, children and adults explore the Clair-obscur exhibition by taking part in guided observation games and hands-on activities. Paintings, sculptures, installations, videos and photographs reveal themselves in a new light before our eyes: a character becomes a strange creature, an everyday object seems to come straight from a fantasy world, a light makes a shape appear or disappear. Here, nothing is quite what it seems... and that's the magic of it!
