In dialogue with Fujiko Nakaya’s Cloud #07156, installed in the Rotunda, the American composer Kali Malone premieres a newly commissioned work, Love Abounds In All Things, for a 10-part mixed choir. The piece is performed by the Macadam Ensemble, a vocal ensemble conducted by Étienne Ferchaud and dedicated to exploring the expressive potential of the human voice.

The programme also includes several works for male vocal quartet from Malone’s 2024 album All Life Long. As Fujiko Nakaya’s fog sculpture gradually fills the Rotunda, the audience is immersed in the composer’s acoustic and polyphonic choral music.

Program :

  • Love Abounds In All Things (6:30 minutes)
  • Passage Through The Spheres (7:00 minutes)
  • Slow of Faith (4:30 minutes)
  • All Life Long (3:30 minutes)

Kali Malone (born in 1994 in Colorado) is an American composer and musician primarily working with pipe organ, chamber ensembles, and electroacoustic formats. Whilst studying classical vocal music from an early age, she also grew up closely connected to adjacent underground experimental music scenes. After relocating to Sweden at age 18, she became involved with Elektronmusikstudion (EMS), where she had access to state-funded studios equipped with historical Buchla synthesizers and tape machines. This environment significantly expanded her practice in synthesis, tape music, and acousmatic spatial composition. During this period, she also interned as a pipe organ tuner, an experience that profoundly shaped her musical development and deepened her interest in organ composition, historical temperaments and just intonation. Today, her works merge analog and digital synthesis with acoustic instrumentation such as pipe organ, strings, winds, and choir. Built on a foundation of evolving harmonic cycles, her music draws out latent emotional resonances; letting go of expectations of duration and breadth offers a space for reflection and contemplation.

Macadam Ensemble is a French vocal ensemble founded and directed by Étienne Ferchaud, dedicated to exploring the expressive potential of the human voice through both early and contemporary choral repertoires. In collaboration with artists, composers, and performers from a wide range of aesthetic backgrounds, the ensemble seeks to renew the experience of choral music and its modes of interpretation. The ensemble performs the choral parts on All Life Long by Kali Malone.
