Workshop con Johan Grimonprez

Johan Grimonprez (1962, Belgium), whose work is presented in the atrium of Palazzo Grassi during the exhibition Voice of images, met the students of Accademia di Belle Arti, Ca’ Foscari and IUAV for a three-day workshop, titled Maybe the sky is really green and we're just colorblind.

Offered to the students of the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, Ca 'Foscari University and IUAV university, the workshop is presented as a reflection on the digital era, characterized by an infinite number of images and sounds that travel through the world in no time.
Starting from his own experience as an artist, curator and filmmaker Johan Grimonprez offers to the students a theoretical discussion of how current events are filtered by the media, by screening examples from a recent YouTube-O-Theque he compiled as curator and of which part is exhibited at Palazzo Grassi. Focusing mainly on contemporary media jammer strategists that go against the grain and question mainstream media, this visual library includes work amongst the Yes Men, Harun Farocki, Miranda July, Chris Marker, Pierre Huyghe, Digital Zapatismo, Rea Tajiri, Alexander Sokurov, David Shrigley, Ulrike Meinhof, Mathias Muller, RtMark, The Residents, The Gorillaz, Bjork & Michel Gondry, but furthermore also mainstream and not so mainstream examples literally plucked from all sorts of venues, such as ads, quirky home movies, South Park, MTV and CNN & Russian TV.
