Palazzo Grassi – Pinault Collection presents a screening at Il Teatrino of Such a Morning (2017, 85’) by Amar Kanwar, the artist featured in the exhibition Amar Kanwar. Co-travellers, on view at Palazzo Grassi until 10 January 2027. The screening will be at the presence of the artist and curator Jean-Marie Gallais.
The event extends the exhibition and offers an opportunity to explore a central aspect of Kanwar’s practice, in which images, documents and testimonies become tools for reflecting on memory, political violence, justice, and forms of individual and collective resistance.
Such a Morning is a contemporary parable on the search for truth. Its protagonist, a renowned mathematician, suddenly abandons his life and retreats into a decommissioned railway carriage, transformed into a dark space for an intense journey of self-discovery. From this experience emerges an “Almanac of Darkness”, comprising forty-nine letters devoted to different forms of darkness, through which Kanwar reflects on ways of reinterpreting the present and imagining new forms of thought and action.
