Helicotrema 2019

On the occasion of its eighth year, Helicotrema is back at Palazzo Grassi and at the Teatrino with new listening sessions inspired by the main themes of Luc Tuymans' exhibition La Pelle.

Programme:

Ouverture - Playlist
Helicotrema curates a playlist conceived to accompany the work Schwarzheide.

The sound of violence - Guided listening session
The first session is influenced by the way in which Luc Tuymans looks at violence.
The relationship between violence and sound immediately recalls the political dimension of sharing a space. Through sound you can impose information in a space, as well as physical sensations, emotions or alert states. Hearing is linked to instinctive, pre-rational responses inherent in the human organism, to which sound can access in a violent way, without mediation.

Natura Morta / Still Life - Guided listening session
The second session is inspired by how, in Luc Tuymans' work, images found in magazines and online are represented through a unfamiliar light, an "authentic falsification" of reality.
The audience program continues with the presentation of a series of sound works inspired by how, in the works of Luc Tuymans, images found in magazines or online are represented through a light unfamiliar, opaque, deaf, flat, through a "authentic falsification" of reality.
According to Treccani: "Talking about still life is a contradiction: nature by its definition is alive, but becomes dead when it is removed from its habitat (the flower cut from the plant, the fruit picked from the tree)". How can the idea of still life be understood acoustically? If the notion of "soundscape" (soundscape) has to do with an environment understood in its entirety, perhaps still life can be understood as the presentation of sound objects isolated from the rest, from the spatial and acoustic context.
