When I was a body is a concept that unites Luca Formentini and Mario Piavoli, both interested in exploring emotional and spiritual worlds through the use of their own expressive tools: sound for the former and images for the latter.
The collaboration between the two artists has developed over more than ten years through artistic encounters that flow in two directions, starting from music to arrive at video and vice versa, preserving dynamics that can often be compared to the concept of Magical Realism.
This term, coined by the painter Franz Roh in 1925, has become increasingly defined over time as a point of contact between the objective dimension and the invisible subjective, offering the possibility of the coexistence of spiritual pulsation in the representation of everyday life.
With When I Was A Body, the two artists aim to offer a point of entry to invite contact with one's inner self. They do so through the use of image and sound without any decorative or narrative intention, but by exploiting their qualities that allow for an emotional connection because together they are able to cross filters and resistances, in the hope of leading to a state of contemplation towards the wonderful panorama of one's own depths.
